How to create best dropdown components?
List the actual options. Tell the AI whether the dropdown is a navigation menu, a filter, or a selection control. Provide option labels, groupings, and the initial selection when one is needed.
Describe the open and closed states. Specify the trigger label, menu width, selected styling, and handling of long labels. Include any disabled options and explain whether the control allows one or several choices.
Review interaction details. Check focus visibility, keyboard access, and whether the menu fits smaller screens. Ask for revisions if items feel crowded or the selected value is hard to recognize.
